4396508 is the new and improved fitler that replaces 4392857. This water filter (4396508) cartridge is the same as Sears filter number 9902, 46-9902, 2203220, and 4396163.It is located in the grill (bottom front) of the refrigerator. It removes most chlorine, lead, odor and taste. Whirlpool recommends replacing this filter every 6 months.

If you need a better version of this Whirlpool filter (and you need it to remove cysts as well), then part number 4396510 may be right for you. It looks the same as the 4392857 pictured above, but it filters out more impurities. Replaces part numbers 4392922, 4396164, 2203980, 9902, 9020, and 46-9902. Whirlpool recommends replacing it every 6 months as well.

 

8171413

This water filter (8171413) cartridge is the replacement for part number 8171787, 9002, 2204324 and 2204326. It is located in the back of the refrigerator compartment. It removes most chlorine, lead, odor and taste. Whirlpool recommends replacing this filter every 6 months.

It looks the same as the 8191417 pictured above, but it filters out more impurities. Replaces part numbers 8171788, 9002 and 46-9002. Whirlpool recommends replacing it every 6 months as well.
