4396508 is the new and improved fitler that replaces 4392857. This water filter (4396508) cartridge is the same as Sears filter number 9902, 46-9902, 2203220, and 4396163.It is located in the grill (bottom front) of the refrigerator. It removes most chlorine, lead, odor and taste. Whirlpool recommends replacing this filter every 6 months.

It looks the same as the 4392857 pictured above, but it filters out more impurities. Replaces part numbers 4392922, 4396164, 2203980, 9902, 9020, and 46-9902. Whirlpool recommends replacing it every 6 months as well.
